November 9, 2009

Dear Supporters of Safe American Schools,

The Hitting Stops Here! and Parents and Teachers Against Violence in Education have a scheduled appointment with the office of Dept. of Education and Labor Chairman George Miller. This meeting will take place on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at 10 am PST in Concord, California.

We invite all who are able to attend this meeting to be present. We will be demanding the abolition of school corporal punishment throughout the US and its territories, including the use of harmful seclusions and restraints.

Along with Paula Flowe, Exec. Director of The Hitting Stops Here!, two “key players” in the campaign for ending school corporal punishment in the US will speak at this eventful meeting. They are Mr. Jordan Riak, Executive Director of Parents and Teachers Against Violence in Education (PTAVE) and Professor of Law, Deana Pollard Sacks. Professor Pollard-Sacks is a fellow board member of PTAVE and is also the author of the recently released UC Davis Law review entitled, STATE ACTORS BEATING CHILDREN: A CALL FOR JUDICIAL RELIEF.

I am presently making arrangements for students enrolled in San Jose City College, of which I am a faculty member, to attend this meeting, including those from our Disabled Students Program.

Please consider joining us to show your support or we ask that you consider making a donation toward student transportation to this important meeting for having safe nurturing classrooms for ALL American school children.

Below is a press release regarding this occasion.  Since this is a national issue, we request that each recipient of this letter send this press release to local, state, and national news media.

Thank you for your attention and great consideration.

Sincerely,

Paula Flowe, Exec. Director
